Has there ever been a friendlier movie star than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson?
The Hollywood action hero is proving he really is the “people’s champion” with the personal interactions he’s having with Vancouver fans while filming his latest blockbuster, Skyscraper.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson meets with fan in Surrey on Oct. 14.
Johnson, who was still in makeup following a grueling shoot near Surrey’s city hall, waded into a crowd of star-gazers late Friday night to dish out hugs and pose for photos.
Co-starring Neve Campbell, Skyscraper is billed as an action-thriller about a building security expert who must rescue his family from a burning tower in China.
Production of Skyscraper moves to downtown Vancouver this week.
The Rock will be filming stunt scenes on Wednesday and Thursday outside Rogers Arena before moving to the alley behind Malone’s Bar & Grill ( 608 Pender Street, between Granville and Seymour) Thursday, Friday and Sunday to film a shootout scene.
Production on the big-budget movie, which started filming here on Aug. 14, is scheduled to wrap on Nov. 17.

DEADPOOL 2 DONE
Speaking of blockbusters, Deadpool 2 wrapped up production Saturday following a nearly four-month shoot in Vancouver.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, hometown boy Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular mutant mercenary with a foul mouth, publically thanked the film’s director David Leitch and crew for their hard work.
“Thank you to our beloved Captain, Mr. @davidmleitch… words are too clumsy to properly acknowledge your giant heart and talent. I love my hometown of Vancouver and our obscenely gifted crew. From our PA’s, (who are first in and last out) to our set decorators and prop department, riddling this film with Easter Eggs in almost every scene… Thank you. I already miss being on set. Which is why I’ve decided to continue shooting the film in my underwear from Josh Brolin’s well appointed living room,” Reynolds wrote.
Filming of Deadpool 2, which also stars Brolin and Zazie Beetz, was marred by the tragic death of motorcycle driver Joi “S.J.” Harris, 40, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who was killed in August while performing a stunt downtown Vancouver.
WorkSafe B.C., the province’s main workplace regulatory agency, is investigating the accident.
BOYD HOLBROOK RETURNS
Hot actor Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan), who spent a lot of time in Vancouver earlier this year filming The Predator with director Shane Black, returns to B.C. in November to begin production on Two/One.

Boyd Holbrook.
Holbrook plays Kaden, a world-class ski jumper in Whistler who unknowingly shares a psychic connection with a corporate executive in Shanghai, China named Kai.
The two men go about their lives, without knowing that they are connected. When one is awake, the other is asleep. They are, in some strange way, the same person. The question is what happens if they were ever to meet.
THE DUDE MEETS THOR
Jeff Bridges and Chris Hemsworth are teaming up to star in Bad Times at the El Royale, which is scheduled to begin production in Vancouver on Jan. 29.
The violent thriller is set in the 1960s in a dilapidated Lake Tahoe hotel.
Screenwriter Drew Goddard (The Martian, World War Z, Cloverfield) penned the script and is set to direct.
DUCHOVNY STILL BANNED
While clothes drop frequently at The No. 5 Orange, grudges appear to be forever.
In 1997, the infamous Vancouver strip joint barred David Duchovny after The X-Files star knocked Vancouver for having “400 inches of rainfall a day.”
“It is kind of like a tropical rain forest without the tropics. More like an Ice Age rain forest,” he joked on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
With Duchovny back in Vancouver filming Season 11 of The X-Files, The No. 5 Orange is reminding the actor that he is still persona non grata at the bar.
“David Duchovny you’re still barred,” was written on the club’s marquee at 205 Main Street.
There is a good chance the actor saw the message. Duchovny, who sings a little, was performing a concert Sunday at the Imperial Theatre, which is just a block away from The No 5 Orange.
