Once Upon a Time, the ABC/Disney fantasy drama shot in Metro Vancouver, will be coming to end after seven seasons and 156 episodes.
In a joint statement, show creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz said the show, which is filmed primarily in Steveston village which subs for the New England town of Storybrooke, will not return next season.
“Seven years ago, we set out to create a show about hope, where even in the darkest of times, a happy ending would always be possible. But we never imagined the happy ending that was actually in store for all of us – years and years of adventure, romance, magic and hope,” the statement said. “We’re so grateful to our brilliant collaborators – the cast, crew, and writers – as well as our partners at the studio and network for making this journey possible. But most of all, we want to thank the fans. Their fierce loyalty and devotion was the real magic behind Once Upon a Time. We hope they join us for these last few hours as we journey to the Enchanted Forest for one more adventure.”
In 2016, as Once Upon a Time celebrated its 100th episode, a report by the accounting firm MNP LLP stated the first five seasons of the production supported 5,585 full-time equivalent jobs (FTEs) and the show was responsible for $276 million in direct production expenditure in British Columbia.
Once Upon a Time will have its fairytale ending when production on Season 7 wraps April 2.
