Members of North Shore Search and Rescue and the work they do are front-and-centre in the new Knowledge Network series Search and Rescue: North Shore, that premieres on Nov.10 at 9 p.m.

The North Shore Search and Rescue (NSR) team is as famous in these parts as the Grouse Mountain gondola, so it makes nothing but sense that the incredible work of this volunteer rescue squad has been captured in a new TV series.

Set to premiere on the Knowledge Network on Nov. 10 at 9 p.m., Search and Rescue: North Shore is a five-part series that follows the members (40 active) of NSR as they find and rescue people from the mountains, canyons, forests and even urban environments of North Vancouver.

The busiest volunteer rescue team in B.C., the NSR gets more than 150 callouts a year.

The series is based on footage and interviews the production team from Peg Leg Films did while embedded in the NSR for a full year.

“Until I moved to Vancouver years ago, I never fully understood how close the city was to the wilderness and its perils. My understanding grew with nightly reports on local news of lost hikers and tourists being rescued by a group called North Shore Rescue,” Rudy Buttignol, president and CEO of Knowledge Network said in a news release.

“What I found truly surprising was that NSR was made up of all volunteers — highly skilled individuals putting their own lives at risk to help others. Heroes. That’s when we decided their stories needed to be told and Peg Leg Films was the independent production company to make it happen.”
